Earthquake Update

Update 23rd May 2015: The major aftershock on 12th May caused large cracks in the older building, making it unsafe in its current condition.

Original report: The recent earthquake in Nepal has affected our twinned school. So far, there are no reports of any casualties, but the school building has suffered some damage. It is still open as a community support centre. Short-term goals are to provide funding for bottled water supplies to communities that have had their normal spring-water supplies disrupted, assess damage to buildings and sanitation facilities, and to help raise awareness of the plight of the communities affected.

We held a non-uniform fund-raising day, with proceeds going to the Disaster Emergency Committee, an organisation which brings together 13 UK aid charities (Action Aid, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, Care International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Plan UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision). We raised over £1300.

If you would like to make a donation direct the school we sponsor, you can do so through Manisha UK's Virgin Money Giving page, donate £10 by texting TEXT21£10 to 70070 (you will receive a confirmation text and a request to approve gift aid), or by sending a cheque made out to Manisha UK and sent to Old Moat Barn, Dormston Lane, Dormston, Worcestershire, WR7 4JX (please enclose your name, address and approval to gift aid).
